The scholarship committee is happy to announce that the winners of the Kurland-Toney and Judy Peter scholarships for returning women—Christine Sroka and Vivian Echeverria—continue to excel in their studies at Bucks County Community College and will each receive another $1,500 scholarship from the branch for the Spring 2018 semester.
In addition, thanks to a special donation from Eva Miller in honor of Carol Kurland’s 90th birthday and Carol’s many years of service to the branch, the committee awarded the Carol Kurland scholarship of $500 to Laura Bacerra at BCCC. Laura is a nursing student maintaining a GPA of 4.0. She is 28 and lives with her husband and son in Bristol.
She came to this country with her family in 1999. After graduating from high school, she, along with her mother and brother, became homeless due to domestic violence. They were able to resettle themselves and today, Laura is married and has a very supportive husband. She is a very hard worker, starting as a dietary assistant, then as a certified nurse assistant, and now is working toward becoming a registered nurse.
