Cops ‘n’ Kids continues to thrive. We made it through a very busy October thanks to a small but mighty team! It was a good balance between building awareness and interacting with children and parents at events.
The month began a new partnership with Bristol Township 21st Century Community Learning Centers, when we met with directors and gave hundreds of books to them for the launch of their after school programs. We read to children and distributed books in Bristol Borough on three Thursdays in October. We ran three literacy stations at Family Literacy Night in Morrisville
at Grandview Elementary. We also participated at Mill Creek Elementary Family Literacy Night in Bristol Township.
Yardley Makefield Fire Company Open House was a great success for building awareness. We began a partnership with Girl Scout Troop 2974 when they helped us clean and label hundreds of books at McCaffrey’s. And finally, we participated in St John the Evangelist Day of Service where hundreds of books were cleaned, labeled and prepared for distribution.
We are setting our goals for 2019! Boosting our volunteer force and hosting a Cops ‘n’ Kids Celebration of Reading are on the list. Shyla Jaggannatha’s son Krishna has volunteered to create and maintain a website for us!
Each month is full of new events and budding partnerships. We continue to look for space, so that our homes don’t turn completely into libraries while waiting for books to be distributed. In the meantime, the storage facility we are renting is helping. If you can help with a donation, it is always appreciated. Printing is one of our biggest expenses. Checks can be made to AAUW Makefield Area PA Branch, INC. with a notation for Cops ‘n’ Kids.
