Members Linda Lackpour, Kathy Quinn, and Kathy Shaginaw took part in the first ever STEM Fair at Quarry Hill Elementary in Yardley on February 7. The fair featured a variety of interactive activities and projects in science and technology.
Led by chemist Kathy Shaginaw, the AAUW Makefield team made shaving cream prints, an activity that show the difference between “hydrophilic” and “hydrophobic” substances. The activity was a huge success with children flocking to the table. Food colors swirled through shaving cream adhere to a card that is pressed on it. The shaving cream wipes off leaving the child with a colorful print.
Member volunteers will be having fun with the same activity at Neshaminy School Districts STEAM Expo, on Wednesday, April 1. If you’d like to help, contact Kathy Shaginaw at katt@verizon.net.
