AAUW-PA Convention: Organizational Changes

Update on AAUW-PA Organizational Changes

News coming out of the AAUW-PA state annual convention included changes in the schedule for the state organization’s meeting schedule going forward. AAUW-PA will no longer hold both an annual meeting and a retreat every year. Starting this year, there will only be one meeting per year: the annual meeting which was held recently in April. The annual retreat that usually takes place every July will not be held.

The two meetings will alternate with even-number years being host to the annual convention in April and the retreat taking place during odd-numbered years: July 2019 will be a retreat year, while in 2020 AAUW-PA will host the annual state convention in April, and so forth.

A yearly Business meeting will still be held during the annual Board Meeting every April.

Changes in By-Laws: The state organization has also effected a change of rules to allow for more flexibility to elect officers using multiple modalities: virtually, by paper ballot, and online ballot in convention off years. Elections of officers typically takes place in April during the AAUW-PA’s annual state convention. With this meeting no longer taking place every year, the organization requires a more flexible voting structure for the election of officers annually when there isn’t an in-person convention.

AAUW Makefield Area Board Secretary Patti Reali-Santoro attended this year’s state convention on behalf of the branch and prepared this report on the highlights.
